Panoramic x-rays are used in every branches of dentistry. Maxilla, mandibular, all the teeth and surrounding tissues are examined on a single film. Fractures, pathologies, developmental anomalies of tooth and jaw, development of teeth and their directions during teething, positions of jaw joint and diagnostics, maxillary sinus can be evaluated.
General structural relations of teeth and jaw can be evaluated in panoramic x-rays. Intra oral x-rays should be taken when more details are needed.
Advantages of Panoramic Radiography:
Wide anatomic sites can be evaluated in the same film.
Patient takes less amount of radiation.
Position simplicity and time-saving is obtained.
It is easy to use in patients who cannot open their mouth.
Doctor may evaluate position of lower-upper jaw and teeth and their relations in a single film.
It costs less for the patient.
